Old George and a grandson or granddaughter (preferably Georgina rather than the fancied-up Georgiana) would be fine by me. Not knowing the book, I'd have to guess that Old George was a raving egomaniac with a bunch of browbeaten offspring.
Of course, the author must have been making a point! And if Old George had been Old Robert or Old William, things would have been so much easier, nickname-wise.
