I prefer the Emmanuel spelling; it looks "right" to me as that's the only spelling I've seen in use. I use, and have only heard, the four syllable pronunciation however I've never heard it as beginning with a short "i" sound, as shown here at BtN, but rather a short or long "e", not that I've heard the name all that much. If you prefer the short "i" beginning, it would make sense to me to go with the "I" spelling.

I'm not particularly drawn to it but I think it's a nice name. I agree with your religious-feel groupings and, for me, Emmanuel fits much more so with Ezekiel's class than with Daniel's.
