I totally agree! It's never been used here to my knowledge so I don't think of it as dated - that might help. (I knew an Englishwoman whose birth name was Nancy, but she far preferred Nan. If she's even still alive, she'll be pretty old.) But I can readily imagine a small Nancy in a gingham dress, frisking on a sunlit lawn before trotting off to her dollies' tea party.
