I have met someone named Avonlea before, and I have seen a couple of distant acquaintances use it for babies in the last few years (thanks Facebook).
It's recognizable because of the books, and Nameberry did a focus on the name late last year, so I think that gave it a bit more traction than it normally would have.
I think it fits the scene you laid out, and works well as a place-name.
I personally wouldn't use it, but that is only because it is not my style. I think the sound pretty and wouldn't be surprised if I met an Avonlea.
