Selwyn and Cole
These two names keep popping into my head. Thoughts on Selwyn and Cole (for boys)?

Cole - it's my best friend's surname as well as the first name of a boy I used to babysit. I think it sounds nice, but it's also nondescript. Selwyn - I like it, but it makes me think of Harry Potter. Selwyn was a Death Eater...

Selwyn - huh, its new to me and doesn't scream awesome, but it's not bad either. Gotta be honest, with the y in there I was going to guess it was feminine. Kinda reminds me of Bronwyn and Tegwen. Cole is okay, I guess. But I know two boys named Cole, two named Colton, and one Colby. so it feels a bit uninteresting to me.

Selwyn is neat, I like it alright. "Sel" is not my fave sounds, and there's a slight lawyerish surnamey feeling. But I think it would be a cool name to see. I like the -lwyn part. Brother Alden.
Cole has a sort of stubby rugged vibe to me, like Nash and Jeb. Not my style, but one of the least unpleasant of that genre - I don't mind it. But I find it harder to picture on certain types of men - particularly tall ones, or overeducated ones, or clotheshorse types. lol

I like Selwyn, especially the fact that you could use nicknames Sel or Wyn.
Cole's not one of my favourites though. It sounds too harsh.

Without really knowing anything about Selwyn, it just rubs me the wrong way. The Sel- is slithery and the -wyn is weak. I could be persuaded maybe, but he sounds like a bad guy.Cole is nice. It's kind of early 2000s, but it was never popular enough to be truly dated IMO. I like Cole as a nickname for Nicholas as well.

Selwyn I don't care for (it sounds like a little kid or someone with a speech impairment trying to say 'selling')
Cole on the other hand is a name I go head over heels for. I. LOVE. it! Easily one of my top names. Its short, simply, masculine& handsome. I would definitely consider using it for a son. No doubt about that. Plus, its not a name you hear of consistently. And when I DO hear it, I can't help but to feel really giddy.
