Skye and Farah
I like the name Skye but some people think its a bit hippish, what are opinions on this name. Also what names would go with Skye as a sibling set.
A friend of mine had a daughter named Farah, she is Egyptian, I think its a lovely name and the meaning is beautiful. What are opinions on this name as it is a name I haven't heard that much of in Australia before this name. Could it be used by non-Arabic people not an issue for me just interested.

I have always loved the name Skye, but prefer the spelling Sky instead. It is a little hippyish, but that doesn't bother me in the slightest.
Farah does have a wonderful meaning, but I am not a huge fan of it. My DH is from a middle eastern background and we live in Australia, so I have heard a few Arabic names in use since we met. I suppose someone not of a middle eastern background could use it, why not?

I have an in-law relative named Farah, she's Egyptian born, now Canadian. It's a pretty name (she's a clever, kind young woman.)
Sure, it could be used by non-Arabic people.
Skye-love it!

I like Skye more as a boy's name. I also think of it more as a place name than a nature name...which might make it less hippy-ish, but still a bit trendy? It could pair well with lots of 'classic yet quirky' names, though...the first thing that comes to mind is Skye & Violet...
I've only heard of Farah because of Farah Fawcett, so I would say it's not a big deal for non-Arabs to use the name. I'm not fond of the way it sounds, but it has a sweet meaning.

Skye does seem a bit trendy and popular culture-ish. It has become quite an overused name in recent years.
Siblings for Skye:
Chloe
Bree
Quinn
Raine
Tara
Ruby
Shay
Tate
Lee
Cale
Chance
With the rise of trendy names, Farah would not look out of place on a non-Arabic person. (I'm from England however, so I cannot speak for how Australian people would view this)

I get why Skye can seem a bit "hippie," but it's hardly terrible. I would more likely use Skylar / Skyler as a full name, though.
Farah is lovely, though. In the U.S. it wouldn't be considered out of place - though a little Farah here would likely get her name misspelled a lot as "Farrah" here due to Farrah Fawcett's lasting impression. In fact I like the double-R spelling better, come to think of it...

Skye is one of those names that I like, but it seems like it had a huge boom in my area ten to fifteen or so years ago. So, I just know a lot of them. I like the idea behind the name, and don't consider it as hippyish as some other names, since Skye has become pretty mainstream. I mean, Lily could be hippy as a flower - but so many people use it that it lost the vibe.
I think Skye would be adorable with a sister named Olive or Tawna, or a brother named Bram or Eric.
Farah is my favorite name, so I am admittedly biased. I think it is just lovely in sound and meaning. It's so soft and simple, yet it's a bit quirky because it is an F-name. Any name that means "joy' is a great name to me, as that is my favorite meaning for a name. I think it totally works for just about anyone.
We were going to use it and we are not Arabic at all.

I like Skye, too :) There is, indeed, something hippish about it. But it's not as bad as I would care about. I think you can combine a lot with Skye. But I would avoid combinations with other wordy names (e.g. Skye and Olive seems a bit strange to me).
I like these sets with Skye:
Matilda & Skye
Louise & Skye
Emma & Skye
Riley & Skye
Oscar & Skye
Owen & Skye
I'm not very sold on Farah, but the meaning is really beautiful. I think it's no problem to use it as a non-arabic person, because it's not a very exotic, strange or complex name.
