I'm all in support of clunky old man names, but Gilbert is just too clunky and elderly for my taste. Gil is a nicer nickname than Bertie, but I still only imagine a 90 year old. Gilberto feels a little fresher.
I know several people named Julio. I wasn't aware of it being used as a parody name. It's a common name in my area.
