Aleida
What do you think of the name Aleida? How would you pronounce it? And, as always, do you have any middle name ideas?
Thanks!

I know a woman named Aleida. She lives in the U.S., came there from Cuba as a young girl.
She pronounces it Ah-LEE-dah.
It's a pretty name.
I have no real ideas as a middle name, am not good at that.

That pronunciation, ah-LEE-dah, seems to be pretty common. I like it as well.

I would say ah-LEE-dah, because my husband has a great-aunt Aleida and that's how she pronounces it. I don't mind it. I've never really actually considered it. Yeah, it's pretty good now that I think about it. :)
Aleida June would be sweet. Or how about
Aleida Quinn
Aleida Josephine
Aleida Gabrielle
Aleida Carmen
Aleida Fern
Aleida Yolande

I had never really considered it before either. I'm loving it.

I kind of like this one... the only thing that makes me stumble is the spelling. I'm sure it would make other people stumble as well. Therefore I prefer it as a middle name.
I would pronounce it ah-LIE-dah.

I'll have to admit that I've never heard this name before! It looks pretty when written though, what's its origin?
I would pronounce it like 'a-LEE-duh' (sorry, can't type that schwa), and I think Aleida Joan or Aleida Emerald sound fine.

Aleida is a Dutch diminutive of Adelaide.
Aleida Joan is so pretty. Too bad my niece's middle name is Joan.

Apparently, its said as "Uh-lie-duh" but I prefer to say it as "Uh-lee-duh" I used this name for a character once and that's how I choosed to say it.
Whichever way you say it, decent name.

I like both pronunciations and wouldn't be broken-hearted if I ever used it and people mispronounced it as ah-LEE-dah.
It's cool that you used it for a character. What made you choose it?

The character was originated from the Netherlands (she had a strong Dutch background) and I wanted to give her an uncommon name that's also soft, beautiful and originates from her backround (:
I came acrossed the name and it just stuck with me for that particular character (:

I'd say uh-LAY-dah (like Leila is LAY-lah for me), but apparently it's ah-LIE-dah. I'm kind of indifferent. The sound is nice enough, but I don't like that it's a short form and I think pronunciation would be a hassle. Adelaide / Adela / Adele are much nicer. Also, it reminds me of the German world alleine (ah-LIE-neh), which means "alone". So not the greatest association.

I was a bit unsure about it being a diminutive but decided it looks complete to me. My German is awful so alleine wouldn't come to mind. It's not the greatest similar word ever.
The combos Aleida Corinne, Aleida Josephine, Aleida Sophia, Aleida Rosemaey, and Aleida Wren all appeal to me.
Thanks!

Without looking it up, I'd say uh-leed-uh although I think it will be safe to assume that is a little off since I don't live in Europe. I'm not particularly fond of it either way.
We can't all like the same names, can we? lol
Thanks!
Thanks!
I like Aleida, though not enough to ever seriously consider it. There are other closely related names that I like more.
I learned years ago that it's pronounced ah-LIE-da, but that's not the pronunciation I would intuitively go to. The "lei" makes me think of a flower lei and Princess Leia, so I want to say ah-LAY-da. I can also see how the "ei" could remind people of more familiar names like Reid and Neil and nudge them toward ah-LEE-da, too.
Just to say, it's a pretty name, but if I used it, I'd be prepared to frequently correct people.

The ah-LAY-dah pronunciation is one I didn't even think of. I can see how that would come to mind.
The having to correct people thing would get old rather quickly and it detracts from the name.
Thanks!

I like Aleida although I prefer Adelaide or Adelheid. I'd pronounce it ah-LIE-dah and I can't really imagine another pronunciation. Maybe ah-LEE-dah, but I'd spell that Alida.
How about these combos:
Aleida Marianne (prn. mah-ree-AN-ne)
Aleida Corinna
Aleida Bettina
Aleida Juliane
Aleida Katharina
Aleida Wilhelmina

I completely warped the pronunciation just now, even though I'm sure I've looked it up before. I went for al-ie-EE-da. Not sure where that came from, honestly!
I don't adore, or honestly even really like, Aleida, but if I met a bearer of the name I'd be kind of excited, because it is kind of a rare gem, even if I don't appreciate it myself. Funnily enough, it's a variant of my name.
I think Aleida Gaëlle or Aleida Estelle would be cute. My instinct is to pair it with something unusual. But maybe Aleida Fay or Aleida Gwen?

I love honesty when it comes to names, even if it means people tell me they don't like it. :)
Aleida Estelle is nice.
Aleida Fay and Aleida Gwen really appeal to me.
Thanks!

Hehe! I really can appreciate it, though, and actually can't figure out why I don't like it - it looks like I should like it and it sounds like it too. I don't get it.
Before looking it up I would have said ah-LEE-dah.
