I love Mercy. I think I've always liked it due to reading the witch of blackbird pond so much growing up, where there's a quiet character called Mercy. But recently the television show Salem has made me fall for it again.
It's a sweet, strong name

I'm not usually a fan of virtue names, but I like Mercy. I've liked it since I was young, where it was the mean character in a book I read.

I like it. Like its Puritan vibe. Not sure why I should like a Puritan vibe, since if I lived back then I would surely be no fan of the Puritans. I guess it's the history that gets me.

I think it's really nice, I like it a lot.

I agree with Ottilie, sounds like someone pleading for their life. It fails the bedroom test. It's pretty on paper but I wouldn't want to be named that.

I would have never liked it until I started reading Patricia Briggs' Mercy Thompson books. Now I've "heard" it so much, and she's such an awesome character, that I like it! I think it's way better than many other virtue-type names, too. Maybe because it's reminiscent of some more commonly used names like Mary, Marcy, or Merry?

I think it's a lovely name,just like Purity :)

I like it-- for someone else. I would use it for a character or maybe a pet but I'm not sure how I'd like it on my child.

I love Mercy! It's Puritanical but brazen, a dichotomy that I find amusing and delightful.

This is the name of a social worker I had contact with. She was a lovely woman originally from Africa. The name really suited her.

I've always liked Mercy. It's sweet and hard working and reliable. It's a silvery-blue name to me.

Maybe not very "fresh", but there's a lovely serious steadiness about Mercy to me, a calm muted dustiness, and that really came through in the combos that popped into my mind.

I like it a lot. I'd pair it with something biblical to play up the Puritan chic, like Mercy Lydia, Mercy Tabitha, or Mercy Rebekah.

Mercy always makes me think of sweet Mercy Wood from The Witch of Blackbird Pond and Rhode Island "vampire" Mercy Brown.

I once knew a girl named Mercy. She was very kind and sweet, so that's the image I get from this name. I like it a lot, just would never use it.

Love it. I know an awesome little girl named Mercy so I'm probably biased. She's only 9 and probably the funniest person I know. Honestly I think her parents used it kind of tongue-in-cheek as they both came from strict, conservative Roman Catholic backgrounds that they now poke fun at, and their lives are now much happier than they were growing up. They were shown mercy in their new and beautiful lives, and continue to have a complicated relationship with religion. At least, that's why I like to think they used it, anyway.

I think it's kind of... disastrous as a name. It has a pleasant-ish sound, I suppose, but all I think of is someone pleading for their life.

I like it a lot, but as a middle name. One of my favorite combos is Priscilla Mercy but as a first name I prefer it as a nickname for Mercedes. I do love the look and sound of it though and I wouldn't mind meeting a little Mercy.

I like it. :) I've known a few little girls named Mercy, and it always seemed to suit them.

I guess it must be on a popularity upswing, at least where I live, because I don't think I've ever met anyone over about age ten with the name. But I did meet the first one over ten years ago, so she must be in her 20s now.

I do like it, and the image it conjures up. I've also seen Mercia if that interests you.
