I've never understood the popularity. Like, I remember specifically being shocked ten years ago when I was first becoming a name-nerd & I learned Jacob was the most popular boy name in the U.S. at the time. I'm guessing it's because parents liked the prospect of Jake as a nickname -- those parents grew up with cool 80s Jake's in movies and tv! -- but maybe I'm wrong.
Anyway, I find Jacob dweeby, and not in a charming way. I actually think it's quite ugly.
