Do you think Archibald sounds pretentious? Do you prefer Archibald or Archer?

I agree with Fiammetta that Archibald is pretentious, and would be nice only for a pet.I don't like Archer at all.

It sounds pretentious and silly. Useable only for pets. I don't like Archer that much but it's way better than Archibald.

I prefer Archer (it's in my top 10) but I still think Archibald is pretty cool. A little pretentious perhaps but I like it.

I think Archer sounds more pretentious than Archibald. Archibald is just weird. I like weird. Archer would fit in more these days, but it's so pressed and slick, it's not very likeable for me.

Definitely prefer it more for a surname. I don't mind it for a first or middle (for a boy obviously) but the "bald" part gets me

Archibald is totally over the top, but for some reason I kind of like it. I find it hard to imagine it on a real person though. Archer is a good alternative.

Not at all pretentious! I find it to be a very endearing name, in fact. I prefer Archibald, as I feel it might be more timeless, though once upon a time would have said Archer.

I've never really loved it, though the nickname Archie is OK. I find it less pretentious than... I don't know, a little oldy. And 'bald' isn't nice. It's a million times better than Archer, though.

I adore Archibald! It would only sound pretentious if a pretentious person used it pretentiously. I definitely prefer Archibald to Archer.
