Augusta
Hullo, everyone, it's me, Emma Rose. I have a question. Is the female name Augusta still okay to use? All right, never mind, I have a chicken named Queen Augusta, but for a child, is Augusta okay?

It is very usable. I think it is a beautiful name for a little girl.
Sure, I think it would be acceptable on a child of today.
You'd have to be firm against the nick-name Gustie, though, unless you didn't mind that.
My mother had an aunt named Augusta, always called Gustie.Presumably, she didn't mind that.
My mum's family was given to nick-names.

I don't mind Gustie. It's cute. I like Auggie better, though. It reminds me of the book Wonder by R. J. Palacio.
Hm. I like Auggie, actually. Gussie isn't a big hit with me, though.
Augusta is fantastic, it's definitely ok. It's more than ok. It's elegant, uncommon and easy to pronounce. It's a winner.
Okay.
I, personally, love Augusta. Feminine and strong, very solid. For some reason, whenever I think of Augusta I think of Hildegard. I find Augusta much more attractive than Hildegard, but I just can't seem to separate the two, like they should be sisters or something.
I'm also a sucker for the nn Gussie. Dated? Probably. But I love it (Gussie & Hildy? Yes, please).

Hi Emma Rose!
Augusta is a gorgeous name. A lot of people on this site love this name.
Augustine is also a beautiful alternative, but there's something simple about just adding an -a to August.
I'll throw out some middle name suggestions for fun:
Augusta Rebecca
Augusta Pauline
Augusta Evelyn
Augusta Rose
Augusta Lillian / Lily
Augusta Olivia
Augusta Vivian
Augusta Irene
Augusta Willow

Besides incest, I find it too haughty.
Oh.
I think it's definitely usable, but I can't say I like it. I prefer the shorter form Gusta. I do love August, Augustine or Augustus on a boy.
Yeah. I like Gusti/Gustie as a nickname for Augusta too.
I don't like it because it reminds me of Lord Byron's half-sister, so it makes me think of incest.
I would have thought I'd be the only one to make that association.
Oh. That's all right, people can have different opinions, can't they?
Yes. That's what this board is for. :)

That's the ultimate for any name, really. I agree with your post completely, except I don't have a gross great-uncle Augustus.
Right. Cluck-Cluck doesn't work on a child and Kaylee doesn't work on a chicken, so neither makes the cut.
Hahaha, exactly!
Thank you. I like Augusta too. It's old fashioned, and feels antique when I say it, if you know what I mean.
