Re: WDYT of Amelia?
in reply to a message by Catherine N.
Amelia sounds "fresher" to me than Amelie. I guess because Amelie seems a little faddish - at least here where French is not a frequently heard language - and Amelia seems like it owns its classic character without making an effort to be cute.
Also, the pronunciation of Amélie seems ambiguous. It's supposed to be am-may-LEE but in my local English comes out sounding like it rhymes family (or homily), plus or minus a forced-sounding stress on the last syllable.
If you're looking for something classic that seems less "boring" than Amelia, I suggest Emilia.
Amelia Elizabeth is a little clunky, but Amelia Catherine flows nicely.
Amelia Caroline
Amelia Jane, Amelia Jean
Amelia Therese
Amelia Constance
Amélie Charlotte
