There was a kind of hair-metal band from the late eighties called Warrant. In those days and that genre it was the cool thing for male members of those type of bands to adopt feminine sounding names as a joke, what with their heavy makeup, huge hair, flashy clothes, etc. So you have guys calling themselves Tracii Guns, Niki Sixx, etc. And this singer from Warrant called himself Jani Lane. (They're most famous for their song Cherry Pie and the racy video that went along with it.)
Anyway, Jani Lane died of alcohol poisoning a couple years ago so was briefly in the news again.
