It's a common name for a boy here in the UK, you actually rarely get a female Jamie (I've never met one in person)

It's okay, I actually prefer it on a girl and for a boy I like it better as a nickname for James. It's really cute and friendly though, and I like that.

I've always loved it. I'd use it for a nickname rather than on its own, but don't mind it on its own. I don't think it seems too juvenile at all like some have mentioned. I think it has actually a pretty rugged feel to it.

Yes, of course, but I hugely prefer it as a nn for James - which I don't think James actually needs, tbh, but Jamie and Jim(my) are fine.

I could go on and on, but I'll spare you. What I wouldn't do is name a boy Jamie.

Don't like it. It seems very babyish on a boy. On a girl it's mildly cute but also a bit childish, but since in a girl it isn't a nn for anything, it's a bit more acceptable. Jamie on a boy is much more likely to be James, and Jamie seems the most juvenile of possible nns. Jimmy is in the same vein but seems to age much better, at least in my own geographic area.

I definitely prefer it on a boy and know enough Jamie's to believe it can be used as a name in its own right rather than a nickname for James.

I dated a boy named Jamie in high school. He was very nice but a bit feminine. By accident I learned his middle name was Lynne. Turns out his mom REALLY wanted a girl. I later saw a picture of him at age 5 his mom had on Her bedroom wall: long curls, frilly dress, and petticoats sticking out. It was taken just before she let him get his first boy haircut for starting kindergarten.

So i have always associated that name with a mothers wish her son had been a girl.

My husband's name was Jamie. Well that was what he was called until he was about thirteen. Actually his middle name was James and he was called Jamie by his family and friends during his childhood and through his pre-teen years. At that age, he decided he couldn't stand to be called Jamie any longer and changed his nickname. He thought Jamie was way too effeminate and he was being teased for having a girls' name. His experience has stuck with me and that's pretty much what I think of Jamie for a boy. Well, for a boy, a little boy, it's okay, but not for a teen or a grown man. I'd be okay with James nn Jamie for a little boy because the formal name James would give him an option later in life.

I also have a nephew named Jaime, but it's pronounced just like Jamie. His middle name is Christian. I've never heard that he's complained about his name, but then he's agoraphobic, so I don't think it matters much.
