Carole
Hello all,
Just trying out the name Carole.
I know a lot of people think it a little too dated to be cool, but not enough to be retro chic - but wondering what you all think. Feel free to use the Carol spelling over the Carole spelling, as I believe it is just a matter of personal preference.
Fun fact - my very first pregnancy, we had loved the name Caroly. I had never picked such a trendy looking name before... but I still love it.

While I love many dated names, Carol isn't one of them. I find it bland and a little harsh, no matter the spelling.
Carroll was my father's middle name which just muddies the waters for me.

Carol does have a dated feel to it, however, Carole definitely seems lighter, more musical, more delicate, more something. Of course, when spoken, the names are equally dated. Still, it's a pretty name. Caroly reminds me of the surname of the Hungarian gymnastics coach. I think his name is spelled differently, though. WDYT of Carolie? OTOH, that's one letter away from Caroline and it might be confused for that.

Actually Karoly (a man's name) is in the Hungarian vein.
That is what inspired us. We actually wanted to use Karoly or Karolie... but felt it too foreign a spelling. Caroly suited my dislike of excessive vowels and my husband's love of names that end in "ie" or "a". We didn't end up using it obviously... though my sister preferred Carolie or Carolee like you.
I agree with the more delicate feel of Carole... and love names that are dated actually. Because they tend to sound fresh.
DD is Clarisse... but people hear Clarice when we say it. So... spelled she looks modern, but out loud her name packs that solid punch of the past.

There are some dated names that I can separate from their datedness and can see myself liking if I were around when they were fresh and new. My own name is one of these. However, Carol and Carole are not. I really think that I would dislike Carol and Carole even if they weren't dated. I think I'd hate them even if I were having kids in their heyday.
Carol is on my favorites list. Carol seems so neat and tidy. Makes me think of perfectly smooth curls. Carole is OK, but I like Carol a little more. At my first job I worked with a Dr. Carole Jo (double firstname), and Carole makes me think of her. She was very memorable and quirky, a vivid presence.
Caroly reminds me of Karoly (masculine). I like Carolee, though. http://www.behindthename.com/submit/name/carolee

That's my Meme's name. I think it's sweet like her :) Same spelling as well as she is French
I know someone with a six-year-old Carol. Surprising but nice choice. I don't mind the extra e, but it does make me want to pronounce it ka ROLE.:)
Remember The Glums? 1950s (I think) BBC radio comedy? Mr Glum pronounced it Car 'ole, like an unexpected ditch full of wheeled vehicle. Enough to put any thinking namer off it for life!
I think Carol is quite cute, especially for a middle name. I don't really like Carole, because the e at the end looks totally unnecessary and makes the name seem more dated than it is.
