Amelia or Emilia
I like both names but there is often a confusion between the two. Which one is preferred and why?

Amelia - and simply because it seems more familiar and straightforward to me. Plus, I believe this spelling is a bit more classic if you consider it's use in English and American history.
There were plenty of Emilias as well... but none so recognizable as, say, Amelia Earhart, etc.
Plus, I like the nn Amy.

Amelia because it's my niece's name.
My niece aside though, still Amelia because these names are often pronounced in almost the same way and Amelia lends itself more to how it is said. I feel as though parents go with Emilia and say it like Amelia but don't want to use Amelia because it's too popular.

I personally prefer Amelia.
Amelia, as I just prefer the way it looks and I also prefer the way this name sounds, as I would say them slightly differently.
I prefer Amelia, because I don't really see the difference in sound with Emilia, and I have better associations with Amelia. I probably wouldn't use it because it's so popular where I live, but just substituting in Emilia doesn't really make a difference in my mind since they're so similar. Plus I seem to keep struggling on how to say Emilia. Emily with an 'a' or Amelia with an 'Eh' sound at the beginning? I'm never quite sure.
I prefer Emilia. To me they have the same sound, and it's a beautiful sound, but I think Emilia looks more appealing somehow.

I say them *slightly* differently Em-il-ee-ah (Em-il-ya), versus Ah-mil-ee-ah (Ah-mil-yah).
I prefer Amelia, mostly due to some pretty cool namesakes.

Amelia has always been more common. I think it's more recognizable to people.
I personally prefer Emilia. I think I do because it sounds more youthful (I've never heard it on older people like Amelia), and doesn't remind me of the word ameliorate. Neither does it remind me of Emily, but people might be reminded of Emily and think it's an elaboration of that - and that might turn them off it because Emily has been so popular for so long.
