I like it. Thoughts? "An intellectual says a simple thing in a hard way. An artist says a hard thing in a simple way." -Charles Bukowski

I vastly prefer Sonia.

I knew two growing up - of the Sonia variety. I didn't particularly like it. But now that I know a very sweet and very pretty little Sonya who turns four this month I have warmed to the Sonya version considerably.

This was the name of one of my great aunts however she spelt it Sonia, which I prefer. I personally have always loved this name. It has a very classy ring to it and sounds unique without being ridiculous.

I've never really liked the sound of it, to be honest. I also haven't had very good personal connotations with it, so that doesn't help.

I like it too. It's satisfying to say, warm and chewy. And though I like both Sonya and Sonia, I rather enjoy Sonya's tart charms. Sonia is trying to play dressup - Sonya is like, yeah, I'm Sonya, deal with it.Do you say it "SONE-ya" or "SAWN-ya"?

I say SONE-ya. And I agree with your assessment of Sonia and Sonya.

Oh! I always though the spellings were pronounced different. I thought Sonia was sone-ya and Sonya was sahn-ya. Guess I simply wasn't paying attention.

I love it.
Simple, sweet, understatedly beautiful.
For me it's like Naomi and Miriam.

That's weird, because Naomi and Miriam give off completely different vibes to me. Naomi has always sounded dumb, while Miriam is nice but simpering and quiet. Sonya is more grown-up and sophisticated.

Huh, weird. What names would Sonya fit with in your mind?

Nadia, Adria, Olga, Tatiana, Marina, Nina, Lena, Elena, Elise. That's just what I think.

I definitely agree with Elise and Nadia. And Tatiana too.

Not really a fan of the Russian Sonya. . . but I happen to love the Italian Sonia. I know a few and I have always thought it was soft, yet had a simple elegance. I know a Sonia Susan, Sonia Jordana and a simply Sonia. I only know one Sonya. . and she is an elderly lady. No idea on a middle name.
I personally would pair it with something classy, but bold, like Sonia Giuditta or Sonia Evangeline.

I do too! My friend's neice is 3 and named Sonya. I think it's such a sophiscated name on a little girl that ages really well. I'm not sure what I'd pair it with though. I'm not sure the Sonya I know of, middle name, but they are very Italian so probably something over the top. I'm kind of digging Sonya Elise, even if that's a bit bland, but I think Sonya has enough personality to hack it. Maybe Sonya Eloise.

I don't think Sonya Elise is bland. It's a little heavy on the 's' sound, but it's nice.

Elise is just one of those middle names I think of pairing with something that has a lot more personality but whenever I use it I feel like it's nothing really special even though I love Elise. I think of pairing it with a lot of names but the only one I've ever really liked is Juniper Elise. Sonya is a hard one though, but Sonya Elise would do for now :)
