I love both. Amina is so pretty and unusual but still easy to spell and pronounce. I went to middle school with an Israeli girl named Tamar (tah-MAHR) and I've always liked it. It's so much nicer than Tamara IMO.

I love both names. Amina is so striking and uncommon, and since I became a Kartvelophile, Tamar most calls to mind the amazing Queen Tamar of Georgia. She was one of Georgia's greatest rulers ever.

Amina - I found this name a couple of years ago and thought it was so pretty. However, after a while all I could hear was "amino", as in "amino acids". The science-nerd in me just can't let that go, though I know that the majority of people will not make the connection.

I also would prefer if the name started with an additional letter. Something like Samina (I think that is a name) would sound more complete to me.

Tamar is such a lovely name. It is really too bad that her story is such a tragic one. However, I choose to look at the story of Tamar as a life lesson that absolutely terrible things happen, but we can eventually move past them (even though Tamar didn't). Redeeming fact is that Tamar was such a great beauty in the story.

Biblical history aside - Tamar sounds pretty, is easy to say and spell and has a strength to it. I agree that it is striking.

I like them both (with the caveat that Tamar only be used as a female name). Amina is a sweet sounding name, a little to close to amino for me to actually use, but nice. Tamar is very strong and striking, as you said, and I think that the character from the Bible is an interesting one.

I think Amina it really pretty. And the meaning is great!

Tamar does not appeal to me at all. The sounds is not attractive to me, it looks incomplete, and the Biblical connection isn't great.
