As a virtue name, I suppose Grace could work for either sex. Still, being solely known as a female name, it would cause massive confusion if used by a male. A male Grace would have to be really committed to the name in order to use it with all its baggage!

I think it's a really bad idea and only a Hollywood type could get away with using Grace as a nickname, or would even try.

I think it does not work as a male name at all. At all. AT ALL.

Dare I say this? I will dare. Is this Grace Walker gay? I cannot imagine a straight man willingly going by Grace.

I suppose it makes sense that the sound is unisex. Gracin et Grayson are pretty popular names where I live.

Grace I link internally to females, it's just a lady-name to me... however, I would slowly accept a boy named Grace if I met one. I just would never, ever make that leap myself.

That said, I love virtue and nature names lately (who knew?) and am all for bringing them back in new and unexpected ways.

For example, I was looking up the name Sojourner the other day (for another post) and I swear I thought it was unisex and would be fantastic on a boy - alas BtN lists it as feminine.

One of my favorite boy combos is James Grace. I really like it as a middle name on a boy, but haven't been able to get on board with it as a first name. I LOVE it for a girl, so maybe that's a bit too much interference.

Bizarre in the extreme! Give me Graham any day. And apart from its long history as a female name in English, the original Latin (gratia) is fem as well! Words like gracious and graceful are often used of women but seldom of men ... I could go on.

That said, I find Grace a dull and unattractive name for a female.

It's a bit surprising and unconventional, I'll give you that. But....why not? It's a virtue name, and they can be used for both genders. It's not like he's going by Elizabeth instead of Graham.
I really like Grace on a girl, but I actually don't mind seeing it on a boy.
