Cindy and Kyler
Two names that have been on my mind this week. Cindy has always seemed very "middle aged lady" to me, along the lines of Sharon, Brenda, Carol, Linda, etc. But recently it's taken on a different life and now seems more like a friendly, modest "throw-back" name that isn't quite retro but still has this vintage charm to it. Nancy, Gail, Susan and Diane occupy the same sort of space in my mind. So Wdyt? Could Cindy work nowadays? And what longer form would you use?And Wdyt of Kyler, for a boy. I know, it's trendy nothingness but I'm weirdly attracted to it right now. I seems much sleeker than Skylar and less "jockish" than Kyle. photo image_zps4f7ff53c.jpg

I don't see Cindy that way. To me, it's just dated and could eventually have vintage charm, but that won't happen for a while yet, 30-40 years, if it does. I must say that I think it should only be a nickname for Cynthia, and while I like Cynthia, I don't care for Cindy. I suppose one reason that I can't think of Cindy as having vintage charm yet is that I'm middle-aged and it was a popular name in my age group---in fact, I had a good friend in high school named Cynthia nn Cindy.Kyler is better than Kyle, but I think that because I really hate Kyle.

When I was a schoolgirl we got a Siamese cat with evil, beautiful, slanting blue eyes. She was a most virtuous animal but she looked wicked, and I wanted to give her a wicked name. But she was pedigreed and "had to" have a name starting with L. So I named her Lucinda and called her Cindy - well, it had sin in it. So I like the name, and the advantage of Lucinda is the possibility of Lucy if Cindy doesn't work - and vice versa.I can't join you about Kyler, I'm afraid.

I don't like Cindy and I can't see it working very well on a kid these days.I like Kyler, though. I like Ryker as well, but not as much.

Cindy is ok. I mean I don't hate it (no beef with it) but I also don't love it. I can tolerate it. It definetly makes me picture a grown woman perhaps born in the 70's. Even the full name 'Cynthia'_ makes me picture a grown woman.
Kyler I like. Even kyle is good as well

Cindy is kind of cute in a very squeaky-clean, 1970's kind of way. Nothing really special about it but none of the heaviness and dullness of Brenda and Sharon. Not quite as flaky as Debbie, but not as grown-up as Judy.
I like it on its own, or rather, I like it much more than the cartoonish Lucinda or the unattractive Cynthia.Kyler is just dumb, a mash-up of two incredibly annoying names: Kyle and Tyler.

Kyler is one of my bottom 10 names. It's one of the few names I pity parents giving to their children.

Cindy makes me cringe. The only time I have ever heard it is on that plastic doll that's one of Barbie's friends or something. So I guess that makes it seem plastic and false and painful to me. To me it's just like naming someone Barbie.

If it sounds "middle aged lady" to you, I guess it must have actually been used as a name for people where you are?Kyler IS pretty cool. It's definitely better than Kyle and I'd agree it sounds sleeker, somehow, than Skylar.
I do like Skylar too though ^_^ Even though people say it's horrible and trendy. I can't help it!

It was quite popular, mostly as a nickname for Cynthia, in the US from the 1950s and 1960s. As I mentioned above, I had a good friend in high school called Cindy, and I've known a few other Cindys.
