Nessa
What does everyone think of Nessa, my most recent name crush? I confess that I was initially wary of the name because I thought it was merely a diminutive of Vanessa (no, there's nothing objectively wrong with favoring diminutives over full names; yes, I am vulnerable to the conceit that diminutives are insubstantial as given names), but deeper investigation revealed the name's roots in Irish mythology. I just find it gossamer and delicate, but not immaterially so.What do you think of these combinations?Nessa Beatrix

It makes me want to say "what's occurring?" in a strong Welsh accent.(I'm praying someone else gets what I'm talking about)!

I get what you're talking about and this was my first thought too! :-)

Irish mythology or not, Nessa still sounds to me like a babyish nickname or mangling of another name, like Tessa does. I really like Vanessa and think it makes a good first name, but Nessa is too babyish-sounding even for a nickname for that.
