It's my sister's name, and it was wildly popular at the time my sister's and my generation were being born, as you're well aware. So between it being the name of my sister, and its popularity, for a long time I felt towards it the contempt born out of familiarity.
At some point, though, I began to separate it from all that, and appreciate it for what it is, and what it is is a soft, feminine, pretty, and as you say, patrician name. I think there was a reason that it was so popular. Of course, it's now dated, as eventually becomes true for all popular names.
I like Patricia Eulalie and Patricia Rosamond. My sister is Patricia Jeanne, but I certainly don't recommend the fillerish Jeanne, though it does flow well.
