HelpAdrienne, Fabienne, and Viggo
Adrienne is probably the name I have loved for THE longest time. It goes in and out of my favorites but it's always still there. Today it's back on my mind. Wdyt?
That also brought to mind Fabienne, and got me wondering about the idea of "Fable" as a casual nn. Thoughts?
And lastly what's your opinion of Viggo? Is it too odd for use on a mutt-American child. I'm really loving Viggo Robin as a combo

Adrienne's a beautiful name and the Adrienne Rich association's wonderful. I'm not exactly sure why it never makes my list, I guess there's something about the sound that I find a little jarring. Though that's part of why it's such a strong name.
Fabienne has a gorgeous sound and I think Fable's an awesome idea for a nickname.
Viggo's also great. I think Fabienne sounds much more European/foreign than Viggo! Viggo Robin's an awesome combo. Really, I don't think it can get better.

I have very good personal associations with the name Adrienne, so I do like it, but it's not a big favourite of mine, or one I would ever consider using. On the other hand, I adore Fabienne! I think it's sweet, yet at the same time has just the right amount of attitude. Not a fan of Fable, however.
Viggo has only recently started growing on me. I do like it now, but before I thought it sounded dreadful. Viggo Robin is lovely.

Adrienne annoys me. It just really does. Apparently it's a legitimate French feminine form of Adrian. I still don't think it sounds feminine enough, and I love Adrian for a boy, and I think Adrienne (f) takes away from Adrian (m), in that I think it's made people less likely to use Adrian for a boy, and that's a shame. Daniel/Danielle is different in that there is a difference in pronunciation, so Danielle has taken nothing away from Daniel, but Adrienne needs to go jump off a bridge.
Fabienne nn Fable I'm pretty neutral about.
I think Viggo is ridiculous. Makes me think about the fact that my sister's SIL actually named her son Vito.

Okay, the story is: My sister's husband's family, including his sister of course, is French Canadian. They moved to Massachussetts many years ago. His sister married an American of Italian descent. The sister and her husband have five children. The first three, all girls, were given French names. The fourth, a boy, was named after his father. When she was pregnant with the fifth, the Italian-American husband started saying that, since the girls all had French names, he wanted this baby to have an Italian name. So based upon that, they started joking that they'd name the baby Vito. My sister thought it was a total joke. Not a joke that they wanted an Italian name, but that the name would actually be Vito, she thought was a joke. They started calling the unborn baby Vito, but my sister still thought this was part of the joke. But when the baby was born, lo and behold, they really named him Vito.

I know a lot of girls named Adrienne. The name was semi-popular in my area in the 80s, so I had at least 4 classmates with the name.
I think it is pretty, though I honestly think Adrian on a boy is a little better.
But Fabienne? Fantastic name. Never really thought about it and love the idea of Fable as a nn. I probably would have used Fabi or Bina... but Fable is cute.
Viggo is decent. I suggested it to my husband and, to my surprise, he already has an uncle (tito), Vigo (he also has a Tito Lando for you Star Wars fans).
Viggo Robin is nice, but I lean toward the one 'g' for the name. I think it's multi-ethnic enough that it doesn't dictate nationality.

I like Adrienne too. I had a friend by that name growing up and she was just really sweet, soft-spoken, deep and wise. Very nice name.
