I love the ideal of Rain for a boy. It's a pretty unisex name in my opinion. I think it could work either as a middle of third name or even as a first name.

For the general population: yeah, it's okay.
For you: Heck, yes.Gideon Rain Magnus

In other words, he wouldn't actually use it except when filling in forms? Yeah, why not? Seems to have as many bleak associations as positive ones - save for a rainy day, into each life a little rain must fall, rain, rain, go away - but if it's meaningful to you it'll be meaningful to him too. Which is surely the point?Botswana is mostly desert and semi-desert. Rain, understandably, is very important to the people there, and their currency is called the Pula, which means 'Rain'. In the form 'Mapula' (same meaning; pronounced muh POO luh) it is used as a girl name.

That is very interesting about Botswana. Thanks!

I like it. It sounds good on a boy to me, especially for a middle name.It reminds me of this guy:Rain Korean Singer.JPG"Rain Korean Singer" by Sry85 - Own work. Licensed under CC BY 2.5 via Wikimedia Commons.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rain_%28entertainer%29

Thanks. I've never heard of him, but he seems to be growing in popularity here. Hopefully I'll have a baby before he gets too popular ;)

I think it is a great name. I know many men and boys with this name.

NO. Use River
Raine/Raine is too feminine

To me, River is more feminine. I have other reasons, too, for choosing Rain over River. Thank you, though.

As a middle name? Why not.I wouldn't use it as a FN, but I think it's absolutely fine as a middle name.
