Help choosing from our shortlist??
Thanks so much everyone for helping us find names for our girls!
We've got a list of 4 now that we really love and we just have to choose from it. Maybe you guys can help?? One is definitely Maeve and for the other we can't choose between Zoe, Tamsin, Anya and Mackenzie. What do you guys think? Which sounds best with Leo (our son) and Maeve? My boyfriend's favorite is Mackenzie and I love it too but I read the comments here and there are SO many people hating on it! I love the name but I don't want to choose a name that heaps of people hate.
But still can't choose a favorite out of these four names!

I think Maeve and Mackenzie would be super cute. I could also see Maeve and Zoe. I don't really like the name Tamsin. I love the name Anya but I don't think it goes with Maeve.

Thanks for your help!! We suddenly realised the other day that if they were M and M it'd be like M&Ms and it made me laugh :D I'm happy you like Mackenzie though!!

Personally, I love the name Mackenzie. I don't think of it being masculine at all. But I do agree that it doesn't flow as well with Leo and Maeve. Mackenzie makes a great middle name though! My best friends name is Katherine June Mackenze which I think is pretty.I love the name Anya though! It's one of my favorites! It is Russian sounding (which is why I like it) but I think it suffers the same problem as Mackenzie, it doesn't fit as nicely. My choice would have to be Tamsin. Like Maeve, it's not a name that you hear often and it sounds good with Leo!
vote up1
Thanks :) Using it as a middle name could really work!! Even the people who say it's masculine couldn't argue cos it's also a surname and heaps of people have surnames as middle names (here anyway). Tamsin is getting to by my favourite too ^__^

Go with your favorite :) The haters shouldn't put you off unless you decide they have a point - if you actually agree that Mackenzie sounds masculine, or that it will not stand the test of time, or whatever else they say. My mother wanted to name my sister Shlomit, her friend asked her, "Like Shlomit vomit?" and she decided not to, because she couldn't get that out of her head. But if you do love it, don't worry! It's a decent name, and in real life it will get a much better reception than on these boards.Another thing: I think at this point you should keep the whole shortlist and wait till you see the girls. One of them might just look like a Zoe, or maybe neither will look like a Mackenzie. I could tell you my favorite based on aesthetics (which is Tamsin, by the way), but it all comes down to what you think will be the most fitting for your actual real life daughter, as a child and as an adult.

Shlomit vomit >_< I think I know how she felt. When we talk about Mackenzie I can't get the things I read out of my head. I still think it's a nice name but I think people have a point when they say it does really fit with Maeve and Leo. But I don't think they have a point when they say it's ugly! That's a good point! My boyfriend laughed and said all babies look like grumpy old men and we'll have to call them Henry and Arnold.
But he's joking cos we decided on Lee Alexander and when he was born my boyfriend said "No, his name is actually Leo. You can tell." And he was right. So I think this is a very good idea!

I like Tamsin best with Maeve and Leo. Mackenzie also works really well, and if that's your favorite, you should use it. :)
vote up1
Thanks :) Mackenzie isn't my favourite (it's my boyfriend's favourite) and I do still like it a whole lot but I think I'm loving Tamsin best now. It's so hard to chose!
vote up1
I like Mackenzie, but I think it sticks out like a sore thumb at the end of Leo and Maeve.
Personally my favourite name from your list is Anya, and it just so happens to be the one that I think fits best too! Then I would pick Zoe, then probably Mackenzie, and Tamsin last.

Thanks for your help ^_^ We still can't choose... it's a good thing we got a while!

I like Mackenzie.I think it's adorable, but not in a cutesy way. You can't pay too much attention to the comments, because a lot of people show up to bash names and then we never hear from them again. Also, you should go with your own taste. If you love Mackenzie and it seems to fit, go for it. No matter which name you pick, there is always going to be someone who hates it. Screw 'em, it ain't their kid.
vote up1
Do they? I didn't know.. but there are a lot more of them basing Mackenzie then other names. I guess it makes me kind of uncomfortable and that makes me love the name a bit less.
But I'm glad you like it :)
vote up1
People don't like Mackenzie because it's trendy and masculine. They have every right to their opinions, of course, but that doesn't mean you should like the name any less. I like a lot of names no one else likes and would seriously consider them if I ever got pregnant. I wouldn't want to wast an opportunity to use a name I love because of what other people think.
vote up1
I guess... I think it doesn't make me like the name any less but it does make me want to use it less. I think maybe you're braver than me!

Zoe.Maeve and Mackenzie are really different styles. Maeve is so feminine, uncommon, exotic and pretty. Mackenzie is so harsh sounding, trendy, common and ugly. Maeve has a nice meaning and story behind it. Mackenzie means son of Kenneth aka son of the handsome one) I really can't get behind the two together.Maeve and Zoe would be pretty. Maeve and Tamsin and Maeve and Anyz would also work well.I love Maeve. Congratulations and good luck!
vote up1
Thank you :)
I'm kind of getting what people mean now when they say Mackenzie is a different style from Maeve. I still don't think it's ugly but I get what people mean.I'm glad you think the other ones would work.

I'm another who doesn't like Mackenzie and my concern would be that she would feel like had the name that "didn't fit" because Leo and Maeve are both short and old-fashioned and Mackenize is long and trendy.I love your three other choices! Anya's my very favorite, but they're all great. Leo and Anya in a sibset feels very Tolstoy, but in a good way and I think Maeve still fits well.
vote up1
I guess I see that. Mackenzie is different from the others in that way.Ohh because of Leo Tolstoy writing Anna Kar-something?? I forgot him! Hmm. It is something to think about. Thanks :)
vote up1
Go for three instead of two - Maeve Tamsin Mackenzie would be really good.
vote up1
Lol three middle names? Or conjurer an extra daughter from somewhere? :D I think we'll probably just have one first name and one middle but thanks for the idea!!
vote up1
If you really love Mackenzie, go for Mackenzie, though it will make the twins' names start with the same letter... My favourite of those 4 is Zoe. I think Leo, Maeve and Zoe sound really nice together. But they're not my girls, they're yours =)

Thanks for your answer! It's still so hard to decide >_

No matter what name you choose, someone will have something negative to say about it. It think if you and your boyfriend love Mackenzie, name your daughter Mackenzie. BtN is not very representative of the general public's opinions of names, so take the comments here with a grain of salt. That being said, I feel Mackenzie stylistically differs from Leo and Maeve, which both are very classic. My favorite of the four would probably be Tamsin. Second choice would be Zoe, but it visually looks very similar to Leo which makes me hesitant.

I guess that's true, that whatever we choose there will be someone who thinks negative stuff. Maybe if we only liked Mackenzie maybe we'd chose it anyway but we like the other names too. It's hard for me to tell style of names >_< But I think I get what you mean cos Mackenzie is kind of new and cool and the others have been names for ages and probly will still be names when no ones called Mackenzie anymore?
vote up1
I agree, Go w/ Mackenzie if you love it. My personal favorites are Maeve and Tamsin. -

Thanks :D -no text!!

I would still definite to with Mackenzie:) it sounds adorable with Maeve- it makes the combo sparkly and adorable.
And by the way... My husband and I have always picked names WE liked- if people didn't like them (and several people in our families raised eyebrows over our choices) but, oh well:) it is more important if you love a name than whether anybody else does or not:)
vote up1
Yes... it's true that it's important to choose a name we like but we like all four of these names and I think out of them Mackenzie is the only one getting hated on.
And I don't want to choose a name just cos I like it if so many people don't because my girl would have to grow up with so many people thinking "What a terrible name!" when they heard it. It is very nosy if I ask what names you and your husband picked for your kids?
vote up1
I wouldn't name them with the same letter. So if Maeve is in, Mackenzie is out. I think Leo, Anya and Maeve would be awesome together!
Leo, Maeve and Zoe would be my second choice.
vote up1
Because of them being twins? I guess that makes sense. It would be kind of annoying if people thought we gave them both M names on purpose.Thank you :)
vote up1
Because they are siblings of the same gender. It's difficult for people to remember which is which sometimes, regardless of names. So it adds another level of complication when the names are similar. And even worse if they are twins. And even worse if they are identical.
vote up1
I guess that's true!! People do get siblings muddled... thanks :)

I like Tamsin best, both on its own and paired with Leo & Maeve (which are excellent). That said, if you love it, I would also say don't let all the hate you see for Mackenzie dissuade you if you and your boyfriend find you like it the best. I suppose it depends on where you are, but I'd expect Mackenzie to be more favorably received irl than Maeve, despite the opposite reaction you see on this board.
vote up1
I'm starting to like Tamsin best as well :)
I suppose... but I dunno if I'd feel so comfortable using the name when I knew so many people hated it even if they didn't say in real life.I'm happy you think Leo and Maeve are excellent!!
vote up1
Agree with this on Mackenzie!:)

ZoeAnswer my question please
vote up1
Thanks.
But what question? O_o
vote up1
I would choose Zoe. Leo, Maeve and Zoe sounds great. I really like Anya too, and I don't think it's "too Russian". I also like Aine, but I don't think it works in the USA because of the spelling. (I don't know where you live, though).I don't like Mackenzie because I think it is too masculine for a girl, and Mac literally means "son".
vote up1
Not in the USA but I don't think most people would know how to pronounce/spell Aine here either. That's why we took it off the list :)Yeah, that's what heaps of people said in the comments about Mackenzie about why they don't like it.
Thanks for your help!

Maeve isn't terrible but it's kind of old-ladyish to me. It's hard to imagine a young woman, much less a baby, with that name.I've never liked Zoe, even when I was a child, though I can't put my finger on what I dislike about it.Tamsin is spunky and unusual. She could go by Tam or Tammy, as well. Tamsin gets my vote.Mackenzie does nothing for me, but it's #62 on the US's most popular baby name list, so clearly heaps of people like it. Don't be afraid to use it if it's your fave.
vote up1
But I guess if you knew a baby named Maeve your idea of it would change? I dunno, we've just loved that name for ages so we'll use it.We'd use Tam or Tamsi as nicknames if we wanted a nickname for Tamsin because neither of us like Tammy much. Tamsin is kind of shifting to the top for me now.Mackenzie isn't my fav, it's my boyfriend's. Not the same thing lol! I showed him some of the things people said about it and he kinda gets my point. I dunno what the ranking of Mackenzie is here.
vote up1
Yeah, I suppose if I met a baby Maeve my opinion would change, but it's hard to imagine. :)Tamsi (though I would sp it Tamsy or Tamsie) is a really adorable nn. I can't believe it didn't occur to me.
vote up1
I love Zoe best.
vote up1
Thanks for helping :)
vote up1
Leo and Maeve are terrific names. Nice job. :0)"Leo, Maeve and Zoë" was my first thought. But "Leo, Maeve and Anya" sounds great too. There's nothing wrong with "Leo, Maeve and Tamsin" except I dislike the nn Tammy. If it were "Leo, Maeve and Thomasina" then I would reach right through this screen and force you to do it. But that is not to be . . . . Put me in the "dislike" column with Mackenzie. I picture McNames eating McDonald's in their McMansions. :0(So, cheer up! You've got three choices that I bet everyone in this thread loves. Save Mackenzie for the family pet, maybe?
vote up1
Thanks :D Thomasina!! No, it is most definitely not to be! I don't know why but it makes me laugh.
But we don't like the nickname Tammy either so we wouldn't use it. I'd guess if we wanted to shorten it we'd use Tam or Tamsi but we probably wouldn't. Maybe I'll tell my boyfriend that if he likes Mackenzie that much then we better get a cat! Or a goldfish. Thanks again!
vote up1
Tamsin! It's a lovely, underused name and it complements Leo and Maeve wonderfully. Zoe is my second choice, though I don't care for the name at all. It's very childish sounding and too similar to Leo. I don't like Anya either -- it's a nickname.Mackenzie sucks. It's a surname, it's SO trendy and overdone, and it sticks out like a sore thumb next to Leo and Maeve. I'd be pretty pissed if I got saddled with Mackenzie and my siblings had such lovely names.
vote up1
Tamsin is the only one on our list that we don't have a "but" for. I mean like, we have Zoe (but it's similar to Leo) Mackenzie (but so many people hate it) Anya (but it's technically a nickname) and then Tamsin.
So maybe it will end up being Tamsin, I don't know!!
vote up1
Agree with every word of the above.
vote up1
But now I'm going to post above and ruin the statement for you!! Thanks though :D
vote up1
Zoe without a doubt! It's the only name of the four that I like and the one I think fits in best with Leo and Maeve.
vote up1
Thanks :D Zoe was the name we thought of first but we still aren't sure if it's too close to Leo. But we love the way it sounds with Maeve!
vote up1
I don't hate Mackenzie, per se; I'm just...sick of it, I suppose. I've seen a lot of people choose the name because they think it's "so cute" and cool and such, but I could never get on board and just remained indifferent to the name. However, due to how many times I've seen the name crop up, any amount if charm it ever held for me just utterly diminished. It just sort of bores me now (no offense!) Zoe is sweet. Not really my style, but I definitely don't mind it. It somehow seems too close to Leo, though; I'm not sure if I would use them in a set.Tamsin is beautiful. For some reason, it always conjures up the image of a sleek and mysterious tigress for me. Very nice.Anya, however, is definitely my favorite! Cute, but it will grow with her. Fits a child and an adult equally well. Gorgeous.
vote up1
Thanks so much! I guess Mackenzie is very popular in America? I only know one kid with that name. I like it a lot but I don't really want to use this one >_<Zoe is close to Leo with the letters which is something I've been wondering about.
Tamsin makes me think of tigers too, and how the air tastes in India. I love it..Anya was my favorite one time but I keep changing my mind. Thanks for your help!
vote up1
Maeve and Tamsin go together best, I think. :)
vote up1
Thanks :D Why is it so hard to decided though?!
vote up1
Zoe easily gmv. Anya is nice, but very Russian, and it sounds out of place with the very Irish Maeve.
vote up1
Thanks for your help! I guess Anya is very Russian. We had Aine on the list which is Irish and its said nearly the same but we didn't think anyone would know how to say it here really.
So far most people are saying Zoe :D
vote up1
Wait.Aine? Maeve and Aine? You didn't tell me that. You must. You simply must. I formally change my vote to, "Leo, Maeve and Aine." :0D
vote up1
Lol xD We took it off the list cos we thought the spelling would confuse almost everyone because it's Irish spelling. And having to spell out your name and correct everyone's pronunciation when they read it would be super annoying.
vote up1
I have to do that every. Single. Day. My name is pronounced like Emily, but is spelled Emaleigh. I've gotten called "Amelia" too many times.I really like Aine too. :)
vote up1
Wow. It gets super annoying right?? So it's why we're not going to use Aine. I like the name Emily too. Have you read Emily of New Moon?? It's impossible not to like it after reading that!
vote up1
No, I haven't read that. I've heard of it, I think. But yeah, Emily was a pretty popular name when I was born.
vote up1
Hmmmm I adore Leo but the girls' names are not really my style... I loathe Mackenzie and Tasmin too... However I think Maeve and Zoe is the best combo definitely xx
vote up1
Sorry that they aren't your style I guess. But everyone likes Leo's name!
We both really like Zoe so maybe that will be the one. So many people hate Mackenzie :(
vote up1
I don't really like Tamsin that much; it sounds too masculine for a girl. And yeah, I hate Mackenzie too. I hate it because it sounds too "modern" for my tastes (I prefer old-fashioned names). Anya I can tolerate, and both Zoe and Maeve fine. Were you looking for middle names?
vote up1
Thanks for your help!
We're sort of looking for middle names but not properly until we know what other first name we'll use. We've got some names like Emmeline and Josephine that we like for middles and Estelle is my own favorite but my boyfriend still doesn't like it much xD
