Rina is a very common name where I live, though not, probably, for anyone under age 45. Here, it's not a nickname, but a stand-alone. It's sometimes given as a female honouring name for the man's name Rino.(Ree-no, not Ry-no, like the big African beast). To me, it's too common,but that's a very local reaction.
