Re: Iris or Kira? +
Hmmm, I like both Kira and Iris.
I think Kira is an oddly powerful and heroic name ... at the same time it is breezy and graceful. On paper it seems like it gets lost in Kiaras and Keiras and Kieras, but IRL I think it stands out from them (I know a young Kira, and a Keira too - Kira has a much better name IMO). Iris - well, I think it's sort of a fashiony name and not as timeless as Kira. But who cares. It's cool and graceful too, and doesn't have that slightly trivial feel that Violet or Daisy does... it's more like Rose, kind of significant seeming.Just this morning my daughter (8) and her friend were playing a name game and rhymed Iris with virus. Not that I think that detracts from the name Iris. I am just mentioning it because I think it's funny.I think the combo Iris Winter isn't very good. It's not bad, but it's too word-y, and vaguely contradictory because irises are spring/summer flowers. Iris Marielle Winter is okay, though, since the words are separated.Kira Winter Ellia is the best combo, I think. IMW is second.
KMW is very good too.ETA because of comments others have made about Kira: Kira comes of age, and ages, just fine. You might not know that if you have only heard of it as a "baby girl name" but I know a Kira my own age. It's a strong name in real life. Keira, not so much. Kira is Cyra, like Cyrus; Keira is some faux Irish fad thing. Iris is relatively wan, and tends to be nerdy. Not that I don't like it, but it's different from Kira. I think it's less eagle-ish and confident, more reserved and softspoken and shrewd.- mirfak
