Anatole
Sorry for making two posts in a row but it just came to mind and I was wondering what you thought of the name Anatole? I first saw the name in a novel "The Poisonwood Bible" and I liked the characher, an african school teacher who later married one of the main charachters. I wasn't sure if it was on this site but it was and I adore the meaning - "sunrise". I seen the name once more in a magazine on a real person. So what do you think of Anatole? ~Lisa~

I like Anatole but it sounds very French to me. (I think of the French author Anatole France.) Don't know where you live, but people might not know how to pronounce or spell it."But it’s all right now.
I learned my lesson well.
You see you can’t please everyone
So you got to please yourself."

I've loved the name every since I was a romantic teenager reading Russian novels. There always seemed to be a minor character named Anatoly (and Ippolyte / Hippolyte (sp?), come to think of it.)Anyway, I found out in French classes that Anatole is a variant. Love it. It has a very gentile, old-world charm about it. The only down side is that most people who haven't heard of it before think its gender is up for grabs. They might start using it on girls.

I don't like it, however i do like the fact that its rare and an actual name, not made up so i see that as a positive point for the name
