Anna
I like plain things. Lately, I've wanted nothing to do with anything that shows any hint of planned obsolescence -- this includes any garish colors which may seem novel now, but that one would grow tired of in a month. Anna has taken my number one spot in the female column. I don't have a middle name for it. I'm kind of tired of middle names as a concept.

Anna is lovely though a tad plain for my tastes. Still, I encourage you to go with a mn. It will become important when Little Miss Anna gets herself in trouble. ;-)Re: combos, I prefer something longer in the middle:Anna Callista

Anna Francesca
Anna Helena
Anna Juliet
Anna Louisa
Anna Magdalena, Anna Magdalene
Anna Penelope
Anna Rosalie, Anna Rosemary

I agree with your fondness for plain, durable things. Where I live, there are about half a million Anna people for every one Ann/e, so I'd go the Anne route - in fact, I have. The point of middle names, I think, is to keep family links alive, provided that one's friends and relations are not uniformly saddled with ghastly names. Gertrude and Percy spring to mind as family names to be decently buried. Anne and David deserve to be kept alive - and we did.

I love Anna! But then again, I do like any "Anna" names, my favourite being Arianna. Though I can appreciate the simplicity of Anna, I find it beautiful not boring, like a waterfall.

For awhile, I failed to see anything extraordinary about this name. But after some time, I began to really like it. It was classic and pretty, a bit minimalistic... but that's what was so appealing. It was simple, and sweet but also could then fit anyone. You hear names like Muriel and automatically get an image. Same thing with Brandy, or Bambi, or Mildred. Whereas with Anna, there is usually no preconceived idea. Overall, a very nice name. Plus, every Anna I've met has been an upbeat, nice person so that makes it even better imo.

It's my name. I think it would be a favourite of mine as it fits in with the style of names I like, but I don't have it on my list since it would feel a bit egotistical to name a daughter after myself! :) I do like seeing other people use it though.

Anna is okay, but it's so plain and safe that it is almost not there at all. A touch of color in the world is nicer than a world of neutrals. If the price for that is a few garish touches, so be it.

I like Anna. Anna and Katherine seem like pretty perfect names, as far as being respectable and strong and feminine, in my opinion. They could go together well for a FN/MN. I was recently thinking of how nice Katherine is because you can have be a fully formal Katherine or a cute Katie, and both are still classic.I can't use either name for several reasons, though.Otherwise, have you considered using your own middle name or another family name as a middle name? My mom gave me her middle name, so it's something I can't not like. A nice way to tie family together I guess.

You are a trip. Are you asking for opinions on Anna?

It was my favorite name for a long time, but I'm kind of over it at the moment. It is beautiful, though, and tasteful. Right now I'd be more inclined to pick Anne over Anna and Susannah over both. I wonder if Susannah will become dated, not from being used, but from being similar to those names that are being used to death right now. I also find Anna impossible to pair with a middle name. Nothing seems to do it justice. The only combo I've ever had that I've been happy with is Anna Elizabeth, just because the names seem equally beautiful and soft. Anna Genevieve, for instance, is OK, but the styles clash - Genevieve is too flashy for Anna. Anna Josephine - Josephine is too harsh. Anna Katherine - a combination of too harsh and too expected. Anna Charlotte is actually a good one, now that I think about it. Anna Elizabeth is still my favorite, though, even if it is kind of boring.

I rather like Anna Cecilia. If I HAD to pick a middle name it would be that, but I am over middle names right now.
