Skyler vs Skylar
Continuing on my previous Sky thread. Found out that the male main character in both books I've read this year are named Skylar "Sky", with the A. Strange because Skyler is significantly more popular for a boy (and always has been) and seems to make more sense if it's coming from Schuyler anyway. I did a poll a while ago and, to my continued surprise, Skylar was the preferred spelling for 19 people, vs only 10 for Skyler.
(http://www.behindthename.com/polls/234127) So, which SPELLING do you prefer? Skyler or Skylar?
(these are the only options, btw. please do not reply "neither" or "Schuyler")

I personally like them both (hate Schuyler). However, I think I am slightly more fond of Skylar, although I am completely unsure why. I do agree that I would think Skyler to be male and Skylar to be female, but that doesn't mean Skyler wouldn't work for a girl and Skylar couldn't be a male.

I can't really say, I like Skylar and Skyler equally. For me it's more of a gender question; I would use Skylar for a boy and Skyler for a girl.

Skyler (male) and Skylar (female)But I don't really like Skyler (male) as much as I like Skylar (female). I prefer Schuyler for the male name.To me the Skylar spelling seems specifically feminized by having the A in it. Dunno why it seems like that, it's just an impression.

To me Skyler is the traditional spelling. If I just met someone who said there name was Skyler, I would assume it's spelled that way. I agree with your conversation with Calla that Skylar seems like it should be pronounced sky-LAR. Same for Finlay. I've always hated that. So I would go with Skyler.

I definitely prefer Skylar for either gender. It just looks right to me. I honestly didn't know that it was a more variant spelling until pretty recently.

Skyler looks like someone who skies, so I guess Skylar.

Skylar sounds like a futuristic flying car! Ergo: that one. :)

I think I prefer Skylar. I know it makes more sense to use Skyler, but Skylar seems more open, airy, and well-suited to itself. Skyler looks much more "made up" (which is silly I know) and like a Tyler-wannabe.

Skyler. I'll admit that Skylar seems more adult somehow but it makes me want to say sky LAAAARRRRRRR. That A just stares at me!
