Colton
What do you think of the name Colton? Is it trashy or does it have redeeming qualities?

I dislike it, a lot. It just gives me a skeevy feeling, and reminds me of horses. I don't have anything against horses, I just don't want to be reminded of them when I see a cute little kid. It's also one of those modern trendy names that some parents think is so special snowflake. Case in point: I work at a daycare and there's a baby Colton in the infant room. The reason why his parents chose his name: "We wanted something unique." His sister's name: Madison.

I went to a school with a guy named Colton. I wouldn't consider him a redneck but he was annoying as heck. He always acted like he was hot stuff, even more than a normal teenager would. So that's what this name makes me think of. Consequently it is trashy to me.

I like Colton. For years, I liked Cole but thought I needed a longer fn, so Colton nn Cole was my choice. Even though I still have no strong desire to use Cole or Colton, I wouldn't object to it either.

I really wish people would stop using the term "trashy" when referring to either names or people or both. It's just so demeaning. Anyway, Colton seems very trendy and popular right now. It's not a bad name, but it's very boring to me. I know a young Colton who lives in my neighborhood.

It makes me think "coal town," as well as "colt." And it comes out as Col'n in a lot of American accents - not really "KOL-tun," although "KOL-tun" still sounds Dallasy. So it seems self-consciously rural/"country" to me, yeah.Trashy, no. It's sorta suburban like Bently or Cooper, only more countrified. "Trashy" guy names, to me - that is, in the style of Nevaeh, flipping the bird to mainstream taste and "knowledge" - are more eccentric, not-good-ole-boy surnamey names. Like Blade and Shiloh and Zion and Shea and Track and Adonis and Gauge and Crew and Legend.

I actually quite like it. I think it's a very handsome name for a little boy, that's not overused (at least not that I know of) it has a nice sound, and I also think Colt is an adorable nickname for Colton. I don't think it's trashy at all.

I personally greatly dislike Colton, though I suppose the nickname Cole is a redeeming quality. Colman and Clifton are far more appealing to me.

I find Colton to be one of the most annoying, obnoxious names ever. Not trashy, but annoying and obnoxious, because, like Brandon, it tries way too hard. It's worse than Brandon though, because it has the obvious word "colt" in it. Well, Brandon has "brand", but "colt" is more aggressively hit-you-over-the head macho than "brand".

Sorry, but I find this name so trendy and I have the way it sounds too. Nothing nice about it imo.

I really hesitate to use 'trashy' in general. But I certainly don't think it fits in this situation. Colton is uninteresting. A bit country and redneck feeling. Certainly on the trendy end of things. But it's really not hideous. Cole is a decent nickname. I feel like, while you could do a lot better, you could also do a lot worse.

I don't see it as trashy, but it does have a country feel to me if only cause all the Colton's I know are country (including my cousin and her son, who she named Colton). I much prefer the simpler Cole.

Colton's one of my least favorite names. It's everything about the South that I dislike: redneck, gun-loving, Confederate-flag-waving, huge-truck-driving, etc. That's the the image I get, which is based on the people I've met with this name. YUCK.

I can totally picture that type. Baby Colton has a cousin named Nevaeh and I wish that I was making this up. I didn't post it initially as I don't want to be caught!

It seems a little redneck to me. I don't care for it.

I've met enough Coltons where I live that it's just a name to me. I don't think I would have ever called it trashy- I guess I'd only put stripper-esque names in that category. Colton is more rodeo/ old west to me.

It's lame. I guess it is a surname somewhere but I don't believe I've ever heard of it as a last name. Therefore it's like one of those faux-surname names you might see in a trashy romance novel. "Colton "Colt" Casanova, the smoking-hot Navy SEAL whose broken heart can only be mended by the plain-Jane pediatrician Ninnie La Bouche, who is determined to keep their relationship totally professional..."
Gag, in other words.

Come, it could be quite a good story, I would read it.Why is Colton's heart broken? Was he married, and his wife became tired of him being away all the time, and when at home, he didn't ever tell her about his work? So she left him for/another guy/to go back to school/back-pack around wherever. How did he come to meet Dr. Ninnie La Bouche? Somehow a child comes into it. Colton's child? Who is, perhaps, ill with something life-threatening.

I know, complete gag. It makes me feel uncomfortable and I'm assuming that the nickname Cole is likely. I've never heard it as a surname either. I just heard of someone naming their baby that, ew.

Cole is not likely to be a nn for Colton very often. More likely Colt. Faux-cowboy names also being in vogue. Colton is not a great name but compared to Cooper and Colter it's downright decent. I really hate Cooper.Ha ha, I ought to have twin boys and name them Cooper and Colby, after the cheeses.

True re: Cole I was trying to be a bit positive. It's just bad.
