Jonah
What do you think of Jonah?

Not a lot. I like Joe (one of the friendliest nns around) and to arrive at it I'd happily use Joseph or Joel.
Jonah's biblical story is, unfortunately, one that everybody knows. His career as a prophet was unsuccessful and his career as the rejected lunch of a marine mammal is pretty uninspiring too. He is proverbially a piece of bad luck - and even if one doesn't believe in the OT, God or bad luck, it's not a cheerful association to hang around a baby's neck.

Without reading the previous threads (apologies for repeats!) I'm sure most have the thought of Jonah in the whale! Lol. Although other than that, the name itself is a nice name. I love J names, but I honestly don't think I could ever actually use Jonah myself, bc all I can think of is Jonah and the whale:)
That's so true!
Yay! What a positive response!
I'm biased toward Jonah because Joan is a family name with a particular place in my heart. And Jonah reminds me of Joan. :0)
But if I can put that association aside for a moment, I still see reasons to love Jonah. It begins with the friendly, good-guy Joe. Plus, it has Biblical panache. Overall Jonah feels warm and inviting. Love it.
Jonah Somerled, Jonah Frederick and Jonah Sebastian are my stock combos for it.

I just think "and the whale". It's odd because I can disconnect other Biblical names from the stories associated, but for some reason this particular one I really zone in on it.
I do think it has a nice sound and I like boys names that end with -a or -ah.

I feel the same way, I remember reading the story at school in like grade 4 and it had the cutest pictures of the whale swallowing Jonah. :)
Swallowed by a whale! ^__^
Is my immediate thought, but I do like the sound of the name.

:) That was my thought too!
