I agree. It sucks.

All I think of when I hear Skylar/Skyler is 'Breaking Bad'

I really hate it for girls even though it was my mom's good friends name who I've known my whole life. I never thought much of it until I heard it on a boy in high school and thought "Wow! what a cool name!". For girls, I have NO idea why it's popular, people think they're cool for using boy names on girls I guess.
but I think it sounds very handsome and I love the nickname Sky for a boy.

I personally don't like it, but it is FAR from the worst name ever.

I cannot answer for the world but I know why I like it :)
In my country we say it "Sky-luh", not having a Rhotic accent, and I like the sound. It's one letter short of Skylark. It makes me think of Skye, which makes me remember the island, which makes me smile. It's a name that leans towards nature which you can use if you aren't daring enough to call your child Sparrow.

You want us to explain why other people have chosen the name Skylar for their children? I'd like the same explanation for the name Jason, honestly.
