Nell/Nelle
What do you think of Nell/Nelle? Does it work on its own or would you only use it as a nickname? Do you prefer Nell or Nelle?

* Ellen * Astrid * Eira * August * Isidore * Emmanuel *
but she wants to be sure 'cause you know sometimes words have two meanings

Oh it's lovely. This name has been growing on me a lot lately. I would prefer to use it as a nickname for a middle name. I haven't decided how I feel about it as a full name yet. I prefer Nell.

I've become increasingly fond of this. Now I really like it, if I would be to use it, it would to soften the uptight Penelope and I would probably go with Nell. :)

Someone in my family tree married a Nellie who was born in about 1880. Just Nellie, and a family ln as her mn. So it's got a history of independent use! But I prefer to use the long form. Nicknames happen! Giving a child a nickname as her/his full name limits their choices and doesn't eliminate the possibility of them developing some or other nn anyway.Apart from Elinor and Helen, and Elizabeth and Elspeth, there's also Penelope. Nell is actually rather nice as a nn for any of them; it's been out of use for long enough to sound really fresh.I once knew an Anna Elisabeth who went by Nellsie. Just saying!

I don't mind it at all. My paternal grandmother's name is Nellie, so I think Nell is cute. I think it could definitely be used as a full name.

The Nell spelling does *look* more nicknamey to me; I prefer the Nelle spelling as a full name. I think it stands well on its own. I get a warm sunshine feel most predominately, but I also get sweetness and sophistication and spunk so, overall, Nelle feels pretty versatile to me.Nelle Hermione
Nelle Georgiana
Nelle Winifred

I like the Nell spelling. I think it could work on its own. I prefer Nell to Nellie--Nellie its more of a nickname for a child.Nell seems quite a strong, matter-of-fact name to me.

I love it! It's a family name and my mom has hinted that she likes it and that it'd be cute for me to use some day. I think it works ok on its own but if not a NN I think Nelle looks more complete

I don't think it works on its own, and I much prefer Nell. Since I see it as a nickname, the 'e' on the end seems extraneous.

I love Nell! It's simple but so satisfying. It could definitely work on its own, but I prefer it as a nickname. Nelle is also nice.

Nelle makes me think of Nelle Harper Lee (To Kill a Mockingbird)
She was named that because it was her Grandmother's name spelt backwards. (Ellen)

I like Nell as a nickname, it could work on it's own, but it feels just a touch incomplete to me. Nelle doesn't look quite right, the e makes me want to say it like Nellie even though I know that's not right.
