Alberta vs. Roberta
Replies
Roberta, because Alberta is a place
I think Birdie is a cute nickname. Bertie sounds more harsh to me (really any "bert" names do).
My vote is for Alberta nn Birdie or Albie. I agree with you that it's fresher.
But if Roberta would honor someone important, it might be a better choice simply because of that person. Robbie could be a fun nn but I also like the nn Bobbie. I think Bobbie also emphasizes that it's a girl's name (which may or may not be important to you).

Bertie is super cute. I'd pick Alberta for the more unique less dated sound - except it's also a Canadian province. Since you are not in Canada, that would be my pick for you. I do, however, also see the appeal of Robbie as a nickname. :) If you don't like Allie, would you like Albie as a nickname for Alberta?
Do you like Robena or Robina or Robin, nn Robbie?

I love them both. They've been two of my favorites for ages and it's very difficult for me to choose between them.
I think Alberta is so cool and pretty but Roberta is maybe more comfortable and friendly. I haven't met an Alberta in real life but I work with two women both named Roberta, both nicknamed Robbie. It's not something I liked much before but getting used to Robbie has warmed me up to it. On the other hand I would hate to see Alberta shorted to Allie or Albie or anything like that.
For a first name I think Roberta takes the lead. But if it was for a middle name I'd probably have to flip a coin. :-P
Birdie is cute! What a good idea.
