Charis
In your opinion, is this a usable name for a little girl? Or the alternative spelling, Caris.

I have a friend with this name, spelled Karis which I believe is the Hebrew version, though I'm not positive.

Yes, I think it is.I used to really like it. I pronounced it like CARE-iss. Then a few years ago, I was working for the school yearbook and we passed out the yearbooks in the middle of the summer, so people had to come in for them. A woman came in and said she had to pick up one for a student, she showed me her name written down, the paper said Charis. I said, "Oh, Care-iss". The lady goes "No, CHAIR-iss." I ended up taking it off my list after that and prefer Carys / Cerys now. I'm pretty sure she was wrong but I think of that every time.

I think it might depend on how u are pronouncing it. I would be more inclined to pronounce Caris like Carys ("KAIR-iss"). Charis, I could be swayed either way but my first instinct would be to say it like "CAR-iss"I love both pronunciations but I would switch Charis to Karis if you want the "car" sound.

I like it. The first time I heard it was when my little brother had a friend over and he mentioned his little sister: Karis Rain. This was about... eek, 15 years ago? Jeezles I'm old.Anyway, I like the name but since it was first shown to me as Karis, I tend to like that more. Charis makes me want to really prn that ch.

Yeah, it's usable.
It'd be frequently mispronounced when it was read before spoken (but so are a lot of decent names).
I would not use Caris because the word CAR in it jumps out at me too much. It doesn't as much, in the name Carys.
If I wanted to pronounce it CAYR-is I'd spell it Cerys.

I really like this name. It sounds very nice, and it's so cute. I like the Charis spelling.
