Opinions on Damiana
What do you think of the name Damiana with the occasional nickname "Dami?"

I love it. Dami is alright I suppose, but I prefer the nickname Mia.
I love Damiana ("day-mee-AHN-uh")
It's a bit overly fanciful and exotic but somehow also very dark and direct. Sounds a bit like a femme fatale name.

I dig, dig, dig. Good name for an opera character! Combos might be tough, though. For some reason I'm thinking Damiana Violet? But I can't even tell if I like that.
Ooh I like Damiana Violet! An opera character.. might have to incorporate that into my story :)
Depends entirely on the pronunciation.
I like dah-me-AHN-a and I like day-me-AHN-a, but I don't like day-me-ann-a.
No, please. Sounds like you're trying to pretty up a curse word.
Thank you for you honest opinion!
I pronounce the name day-mee-AN-a and not dah-MYAH-nah

That makes a lot more sense. It could work, maybe. I'd never use it on a kid, though.
DAY-mee-ANN-a?
DA-mee-AH-na?
DA-mee-AH-na?
day-MEE-ann-a

Original nicknames kind of squick me when there is no person being called them ... if you said you knew a woman who was called Dami and found out her name was Damiana I might think that was nifty, but when you propose "the occasional nickname 'Dami'" for a hypothetical, nonexistent bearer of the name Damiana, I feel skeptical. If you're talking about a fictional character, it could work, but you'd have to do it in a way that seemed natural, and there are a lot of ways it could seem fake.
Damiana is one of those rare names that make a statement but it is pretty. FYI I have seen an herb called Damiana marketed as an aphrodisiac. I would probably not call a Damiana 'Dami' no matter how familiar I was with her, because it sounds uncomfortably similar to calling her "dummy."
OH, you're probably pronouncing Damiana "DAY-mee-anna" or "DAY-mee-ah-na"
so Dami is DAY-mee.
OK that could happen.

I am talking about a fictional character. I found it very difficult to find the right name for her, but Damiana seems perfect for her. I thought her mother could call her Dami at times, as my mother has a special nickname for me.
