I like Dexter, and Dex is one of the coolest nicknames around. I do associate it with Dexter's Lab and the other TV show (which I've never seen, but have heard about) but it wouldn't deter me from using the name if I really wanted to.

The serial killer TV show has ruined it for me, and for many people I expect. However, I wouldn't have liked it anyway - I just don't like surname names or trendy sounding names (I consider most names with an X in, except Alex- names, to sound trendy).

I like it - despite associations! It just sounds cool. I also like Declan, nickname Dex.

I love Dexter. I think of DL and Dexter Morgan but I just push those to the wayside. I haven't seen DL in years and I don't like the show Dexter so it isn't too hard.

My best friend's new baby brother has been named Dexter!
From hearing her talk about him a lot I've kind of got used to it, we call him Dex loads in conversation, which I think sounds really cool. When she first told me that they were thinking of calling him Dexter, all I could think of was a small ginger genius with a hidden lab... But now I'm over that. :)

Ditto. Too many associations. I don't like it. Despite those shows, neither of which I have personally seen, I still think it has a strange nerdy evil sound too it (which is different from brutish evil). I can picture him in a lab, genetically modifying rats. Probably because of pointdexter.

I no like. Just plain Dex has the cool vibe thats lost on Dexter.

I think it's alright. I don't know of any negative associations myself.

I think Dexter is such a handsome name. I just imagine this really cool jazz singer from the 1940's or something, but that could have something to do with it being Bing Crosby's character's name in the movie "High Society". Ever since I was a kid I've thought it had a cool way about it and liked it. A lot of names would work as a mn for Dexter, it just depends what you want to go with I suppose.
