Re: Ruby
Ruby was a name that I, as a child, attached to myself whenever I was pretending to be another person or animal - along with the likes of Emerald, Holly, Star, Stella, Moon, Luna, Rose, Willow, Autumn, Clover... etc. And I believe that it should remain in such a youthful, droll sense; Ruby is not a name that I picture on a grown, professional woman (though, many years ago, I did know a lady by it), nor is it a name that I find visually appealing or by sound.
When one removes the lovely, cochineal gemstone image they immediately associate and affix to the name in their mind, Ruby really is a strange, fairly unattractive word.

I think it's darling. It's not top of my list, but it's been on my long list for years. Sweet and classic.
