Ginger
What do you think of the name Ginger?

I really dislike it. Firstly, its a food. Secondly, it's a hair colour - someone called Ginger who has ginger hair is definitely going to be teased; but for someone called Ginger who doesn't have ginger hair it just looks weird.
I'm not a fan. As a ginger myself, that's all I think of. It seems like a description to me more than a name (and I'm American- we don't even typically use the term!)
I don't think of it as a name at all. Possibly a nn; but whether for Virginia or for anyone from Abigail to Zipporah who has red hair, it gives the silly impression of a spirited horse or a short-tempered person.
It's dated by about fifty years.
Very popular on dogs though. I know a ten-year-old Pomeranian named Ginger. I love playing with her but I'm very glad she isn't my dog.
