In South Africa it might appear in secondary-school geography! But we're rather far away from it. I've often imagined a sibset of Savannah and Taiga and Ocean and Prairie.
I would guess that Pie would guess that people would guess that it wasn't the boreal region but the stripey Indian big cat ... which might appear, let's say, entertaining. Not if it was written down, obviously.

LOL at that last sentence! The tiger - taiga thing didn't even occur to me since I don't pronounce them the same, but I can see how in some accents it might sound similar.

Yup, most of the UK is non-rhotic, so tiger and taiga would be pronounced identically.
