Damaris
I saw this name on a contestant on the Food Network yesterday. I really like it, but I think it kind of sounds like "dumbass". Thoughts? Combos?

I had a Damaris colleague once, and I really like it too. Very unexpected, but familiar enough. Dumbass? Hmm ... in British English, some of us used to call her Damn Arse behind her back, but only you know what might happen in your neighbourhood! My feeling is that kids are endlessly creative and if they want to give someone a horrific nn, they'll find a way, even if her name is Jane Brown.
I love the look and the idea of Damaris, but can't get past the fact that the first syllable sounds like a swear word in the English language. "Dumba$$" hadn't even occurred to me.
Pronounced DAM-uh-riss, I like it a lot. Pronounced duh-MAIR-iss, like the lady on Food Network, it sounds borderline-vapid and reminds me of "demerit."

The pronunciation DAM-a-Riss doesn't appeal at all. I guess this is the correct pronunciation. But I did have a teacher who read us a story about the Pilgrims and one of the Pilgrims was a girl named Damaris, and the teacher pronounced it Da-MARE-Iss. That pronunciation is kind of attractive.
It doesn't sound like dumbass to me either. There was a mom at the school I work at named Damaris. She's Hispanic.
it's in my PNL as a GP. I like it, but I'd personally never use it. I'd love to see it used though. I'm saying dah-MAH-rhis, so it doesn't sound like dumbass to me.
