The UK seems to be sinking beneath the waves of Frederick! I don't envy the boys named Freddie, though - the full form offers so much more. Dignity, principally, but also the opportunity to change one short form (Freddie) for another (Derek, Eric) or to use the complete and majestic name with confidence and authenticity.

I had a boss named Fabian once. Everyone called him Fabian, no nn. We were all very friendly. It wasn't because he was our boss / co-worker. He just didn't need a nn.
So it's not as avoidable as with some names.
And I agree with you on Frederick. :-D I'm hoping against hope that Frederica could benefit in a small way. (Well, a girl can dream . . . . )
