Morgan
What do you think of Morgan? I like it on a girl but it works on a boy as well. Do you prefer it on a boy or a girl? Is it too popular?

I don't think Morgan is popular at all. I've never met one in Australia anyway. I do like the name but much prefer it on a girl.

I don't mind the name at all, but only for a boy. I think it sounds too masculine for a female.

I like Morgan for a boy although I think of it as more of a unisex name. I would prefer Morgana for a girl.

I never really liked the name Morgan. I've mostly known girls named Morgan, but then a friend of mine named her son Morgan. I think it's more of a boyish name, but like I said, I don't really like it.

Fire Emblem has a character named this whose gender is the opposite of the character you choose. I see more girls bear the name these days, but there are a lot (more than I could launch without running out of breath now) of names more common for girls and even more when it comes to boys though. Maybe I need more stamina, haha.

Morgan is my name :-)And I love it!In Scotland its pretty unusual for someone of my age to have so I actually don't know any other Morgans (boy or girl!).I prefer it for a girl, for the obvious reason that it's my name and I'm a girl... :-)

I prefer it on a boy. It's much stronger and more beautiful when used for a male. It makes me think of Morgan Nicholls, who is awesome!

Honestly, I think it's one of my least favorite names ever. Maybe Gretchen and Morgan tie. The 'morg' sound is so atrocious. If anyone ever uses it I'd consider it to be too popular. Just hearing the name makes me frown. But it also reminds me of Daria Morgendorffer, which is pretty neat. But not neat enough to kill my hatred for it.I've known more female Morgans than male ones so I see it as truly unisex.

Ah, I love Gretchen. :)

I dislike Gretchen as well. I like Morgan because it sounds a bit like the German word for morning which makes it sound fresh and happy to me.

Positive influences always make a name better. I didn't know the German word for morning was so similar and that does make it a little more accessible but I still can't get over the 'morg' sound.

I prefer it on a girl because it reminds me of Megan and Morgan le Fay. I think it works okay on a guy because it can also seem surnamey and has a chunky, heavy sound. But it seems vaguely vain and dark on a man.Wow, I looked at the popularity and it was pretty popular recently. I did not know that. But it hasn't been too popular - 1 in 200 per year is not that bad. If I were naming a baby today I'd be a little worried that it was kind of a fading fad, though.

Yes, it was very popular in the 90s. It almost made the top 20 which really surprised me as well. The good thing is that it wasn't very popular for a long time (it was near the middle or bottom of the top 100 for most of the time and only in the top 30 for a few years). So it might sound a little dated, like Sabrina, Selena or Paige or something but not very dated like Jennifer, Melissa or Ashley. At least I hope so.

I think it's okay. I prefer it on a girl...sounds a little too feminine on a boy to me since I've only ever known females named Morgan. I do, however, think it works fine in the middle name spot for a boy. I wouldn't say it's too popular at all. Perhaps a teeny bit dated now since all the Morgans I know are teens or preteens and I never hear about baby Morgans, but I wouldn't worry about that.

I only know of one girl Morgan (early 20s, from Zimbabwe). Not popular here, therefore. But I always assume that Morgans are male, and though I can see the point of avoiding the fateful Morgana, that doesn't make Morgan a good option for a girl. But, I had a several-times-great grandfather whose fn was Morgan, so I do have a personal angle on it.

Morgan is also a feminine name from Welsh mythology. I'm not quite sure whether it originated as a feminine name from mythology and an English boys name at the same time or whether one happened before the other. But it's legit as a girls name.

Well, the Welsh connection goes back far beyond the development of surnames. She's an odd character, isn't she? Mor- should reference the sea, but she's pretty well earthbound in the Arthurian stories. A very ancient lady, clearly!

I much prefer it for a boy. I don't think its particularly popular for either gender here, so popularity doesn't bother me.

I've always liked it, popularity be damned. I think it works for a boy OR girl, but I prefer it on a girl. It just sounds slightly more feminine to me.
