In the past I would have said Anna, because of the softer sound (the second syllable offsets the Ann sound, which is given a harsher emphasis on it's own).But Anne's been seeming refreshing to me lately. Anna's never been the same in my eyes since I was in a conversation where someone said "Anna is a bitchy rich girl's name". Anne is very familiar, but less overused than Katherine, Elizabeth, Mary etc – boring yet refreshing, if that makes sense. And has the wonderful association with Anne Bancroft. :)
