Amelia
I'll just get the question out of the way before I ramble a little bit. What do you think of the name Amelia? My husband has really liked this name for several years now and I have felt cold/lukewarm towards it for the most part. It was the name we had picked out if my son had been a girl and I found myself thankful that he ended up a boy just because after he was born I stopped liking Amelia. What I dislike most is that I feel like I have just a slight difficulty saying Amelia with 4 syllables instead of uh-meal-yuh. For some reason, though, today I like it much more, maybe because I came up with a satisfying middle name to go with it leading me to imagine Amelia on an actual child and thinking about nicknames and such.I like Amy and Milly a lot, also Mimi and Minnie but only as cutesy baby nicknames. I looked up a the history and popularity of Amelia and I was surprised to see that it is currently the most popular it has ever been since name popularity has been recorded in the US. I always though it was a bit more of an old fashioned name. The popularity doesn't really bother me, I was just surprised. Come to think of it though, it is similar to Emma, Emily, Mia, and other popular girls' names. I wonder if it would feel very boring/annoying to an Amelia to be in a class with several girls with such similar names.

DH and I are both very fond of the name Amelia, but it's very popular here in Australia. I do think it's a lovely name and the nn Milly is adorable.

Something about it bothers me. I suppose it's just got the wrong look, because I really like Emilia. If I had to use Amelia, I would use the nn Lia.Above both of those, though, I adore Amelie.

questionIs Emilia pronounced Em ill ee uh? If it is then it fixes my pronunciation problem but I'm sure everyone would still pronounce it like Amelia since it is a well known name.

I do like it. But I am definitely turned off by popularity, so I wouldn't use it as a first name. For our first two sons, the girls name we had picked out was Morgan Amelia. I still like the combo. Great name, though. And the popularity just confirms that everyone else thinks so too.

Amelia is a difficult problem. I know what you mean. There are times when I am enamored with it, and other times, a bit annoyed. The alternate Emilia is increasing in my appreciation. Maybe you might like Emilia. I can say with certainly now that I prefer Emilia.
