Holly
I've been liking this name for a while and the people I've known in real life with this name have been the nicest women so I have good associations with it. Just wondering people's opinions of Holly. Do you think it matters if you five a girl the name Holly even if she isn't born around the Christmas season? Is that too big of a link?. Thanks!

I like Holly. I was friends with a Holly through grade school and high school so I have good associations with the name. I think it comes off as cute and friendly but intelligent. I don't think it matters when her birthday is.

I've never liked Holly. Plus I've known lots of questionable Hollys, the most deplorable of which was Hollie. Ick. It just sounds insubstantial and cutesy.

I like Holly, even though I strongly associate it with someone born in the '70s. I've known only one, and she was very nice and efficient (she was a bookkeeper at a place I worked).I think it could be used any time of year.

I've always been fond of the name and DH loves it too, so we may consider using it in the future. I do like it for a girl born in December, but I think it can most definitely be used at any time of year.

I think Holly is sweet. I probably wouldn't use it myself, but it gives me a pleasant feeling and I would be happy to come across another. I have met a few but it's not terribly common. I also don't think it matters what time of the year she's born.

I've always liked Holly. A few years ago after reading a book series that had an awesome character named Molly I've come to really like the name Molly as well. I will never like the name Polly, most of my life my next door neighbor was named Polly and she was the most b1tchy two-faced passive aggressive person I've ever known and her husband Eric was the sweetest kindest gentlest person I've ever know. He battled his cancer for more than half of his life before he died, then finally Polly stopped being as mean, she apologized to us before she moved, I think she must have been such a nasty person as a coping mechanism but it was just so weird to me at the time.Anyway I've gone off track, I think Holly is a great name no matter what season the person is born, it is not a seasonal plant, it is a year long living plant. I associate it as much with the pagan belief of it having protective power as I associate it with Christmas and Yule.In conclusion I love the name Holly, it is a great name. Actually it is one of the few female H names that I really like, my favorite is Hazel. In order the female H names I like are: Hazel, Honora, Holly, Heather, Heliodora, Henrietta, Harriett, Hyacinth, and Hestia. Hermione, Hortensia, Helena, and Heleen are also okay. I love Hettie as a nn for Henrietta, it's the bee's knees! I don't care for just about every other female H name.

I always liked Holly. I have a favorite cousin whose name is Holly Noelle. She really was born right before Xmas, but I've known other Hollys who were born other times of the year. It's got less of a Xmastime association than Noelle does.

I like Holly. Why would a Poppy need to be born around christmas, it's just another plant name and people use names such as Lily, Poppy and Rose without consideration for when the child is born in relation to when plants bloom so why should Holly be any different.

In the US at least holly plants bloom in the spring and their fruits mature in the winter, some plants their fruits mature in the autumn or summer instead but not holly. You should see little white or green flowers on all the holly bushes right now. Holly is a year long living plant so I definitely agree with the fact that Holly works as a name for every part of the year, as you said even Poppy would work for a girl born in the winter, even if poppy's are dead in the winter.

I have never thought of Holly as a Christmas name normally. When it's mentioned that way, it seems cheesy to me. Holly (the plant) has older pagan symbolism and isn't really to do with Christmas. It's as pagan as Rowan.I have not met any women named Holly that I liked, so I'm not a big fan of the name. But I still think it's an okay name and I would probably really like it if not for one particular Holly I knew. It sounds nice.

Holly is fantastic for so many reasons. It's sweet, spunky, beautiful and underused. I see it more as a 'spring' name being it is a nature name.
