Arya
This seems to be rising quickly. I'm not really a huge fan of it, mostly because it's way too close to 'aryan' in my opinion, but I was wondering what people here thought of it.What do you think of Arya? Does the similarity to 'aryan' bother you or is it just something you don't notice much? I prefer Aria. What do you think of Aria? Arya or Aria?I guess they are pronounced the same, but I'm never quite sure. Do you pronounce Aria and Arya the same? I kind of want to say AHR-ya for Arya and AH-ree-ah for Aria.I guess Arya has become so popular because of 'Game of Thrones'. A bit off topic, but would you recommend the book/TV series?

I really didn't notice the Arya Aryan connection, I've been reading the series A Song of Ice and Fire and it has never crossed my mind. Truthfully I hardly ever see or hear the word Aryan and I don't feel that Aryan is a negative word though Indo-Iranian is the more common term now or sometimes Indo-Aryan. Nazi's idolized the Aryans but nothing is actually wrong with "Aryans" or being proud of your heritage unless it is used as an excuse to hate everyone else who isn't Indo-Aryan.Plus Arya is pronounced like Aria even though I did at first think it was AHR-yah, it is supposed to be AHR-ee-ah in the book. I prefer the spelling Aria since it is more intuitive but I think Arya is a good spelling.I do recommend reading the series, beautifully written the author does a great job expressing the voice of many very different characters. It is a great series even if it is terribly predictable. I haven't watched the show but I hear that it is also good.

Arya's similarity to "aryan" does bother me but I think Aria is nice. Generally pronounce them the same way.

I'd guess it's getting more popular both because of Game of Thrones and because of people liking Aria but wanting to spell it differently. Which annoys me because if it's one thing that bugs me more than a misspelled name, it's a misspelled word name! But if they're using it because of Game of Thrones, then obviously it's spelled correctly. :)I pronounced it AR-ya, which is how they say it in the TV show. (As opposed to AR-ee-a.) I think it's really pretty, and she's a great character. In the show anyway, I haven't read the books. I tend to not recommend naming a kid after a character with a unique name, although it's not that bad of a thing to do.We love the show, aside from how like in other HBO shows they need to stick unnecessary naked people and people doing it in there. Ick. We're almost done with Season 2, getting it on Netflix.

I notice the similarity to aryan, but it doesn't bother me much. I want to pronounce Arya as AHR-ya rather than the begining of aryan, so that's probably why. I prefer Aria, but I don't really like either one. Arya sounds too much like "are ya," and Aria is too specifically musical for me to really enjoy it. Maybe if I adored opera, I'd feel differently. Aria has the prettier sound, though, so it's my favorite of the two. As for "Game of Thrones," I haven't seen the TV series, so I can't say. I read the first book (Song of Ice and Fire), but I have no urge to read the rest of the series.

Arya is one of my favorites.
I guess it is similar to 'aryan', but it doesn't bother me much. Unless you have blond hair, blue eyes, and are named Arya... but I don't think the name Arya would fit an aryan looking person anyway.
I like Aria too, but I prefer Arya because of its associations with characters. I mainly like Arya because of the characters in Eragon and ASOIAF, so Aria isn't as appealing and seems to lose the fantasy vibe.
I generally pronounce Arya and Aria the same, but AHR-ya definitely works for Arya (and not so much for Aria). On Game of Thrones: I like the books. I've only seen the first season of the TV series, and that was good, but I've heard that the seasons after that aren't so much (and that they stray from the plot of the books.) I would recommend the books though.

The similarity to "Aryan" bothers me, too, so I also prefer Aria. I pronounce Aria and Arya the way you mentioned, but they come out sounding almost identical.

I pronounce them like you mentioned AHR-ya for Arya and AH-ree-ah for Aria.
I prefer Aria and like it as a GP. I think it would be a good name if I was a musician and wanted a related name. It's a bit short for my taste, Ariana works better for me.
