Nolwenn
I've been crushing on the girl's name Nolwenn for a while now. What do you think? Mary Nolwenn is the only combination I've been happy with. I'd love it if someone could suggest middle names for it. Thanks!

I really like Nolwenn. It's slowly crept up on me over the past year. I think it's lovely. Not too frilly, but not too plain. I could never quite warm up to Olwen, but this is completely different to me. It seems complete now!

I can't think of any middle names, but it's nice. It's kind of growing on me. It's not exactly pretty, but I like it.

I think I like it. I dearly love Olwen, my favorite Welsh name, and Nolwenn is similar enough to trigger a positive reaction. At the same time, it looks wrong. I'll have to think on it. Mary Nolwenn is sweet. I love Mary with an unusual middle name. Nolwenn Celeste

Sound-wise, I prefer Olwen, but this is nice. I've been enjoying Etheyln lately too, which now comes to mind for some reason. Nolwenn definitely feels strong and battle-ready but there's some sweetness too; wouldn't mess with her, though. Mary Nolwenn is about perfect I think. Please excuse if any of these are repeats...or just bad... ;)Nolwenn Ada

I think I do like it now. For the longest time I almost liked it, but didn't quite for some reason. Maybe because it was too close to Olwen, but it wasn't Olwen. Or maybe because I can't quite figure out what it makes me think of, it's like a blank white name with some yellow stuck in there. Anyway, there's a road I used to go by every day called Nowlen and I'd always think it said Nolwen... somehow it made me start to like Nolwenn a little more.Mary Nolwenn is very pretty. Mary Olwen has always been one of my favorites. :) Hmm, combo ideas.
Nolwenn Rohese - like this a lot, very red and elegant
Nolwenn Clare
Nolwenn Edith - hmm, cute
Nolwenn Eugenia
Nolwenn Femie
Nolwenn Genevieve
Nolwenn Hazel - like this too, makes me think of like... wearing hemp anklets while eating granola :) Takes it a different direction.
Nolwenn Lorna

Lots of goodies here. My favorites:Nolwenn Rohese -- a new name for me -- thanks!
Nolwenn Edith -- Edith needs to get out more
Nolwenn Genevieve -- Nolwenn reminds me of Noël. Strangely, Genevieve reminds me of Christmas silver and gold decorations. So this one is especially pleasing.
Nolwenn Hazel -- I love how your mind works this one
Muchas gracias!

I like it, it's even on my favorite list. I discovered a singer called Nolwenn Leroy and found her name interesting.
I think Marie Nolwenn would be cuter than Mary, but that's just me.

Why didn't I think of that? I'm always looking for mns for Marie. Marie Nolwenn is terrific. Thanks!

Just to be super-clear, it's pronounced NOHL-win, right? Hm.... I might go super girly, since Nolwenn doesn't sound very feminine to me.

I've always assumed it was pronounced that way. But I admit I've never heard it spoken. Let's just do it your way until someone correct us, OK? :-)I'm loving Nolwenn Gabrielle, because Nolwenn reminds me of Noël. And Nolwenn Amadea / Amedea is enchanting! Thanks. :-D

I think it's more nol-WEN, but I don't speak Breton, so I really don't know.

Check out Frollein Gladys' response below. It gives the Breton pronunciation. I suppose in French the stress would be more on the second syllable, as you say. Thanks for reminding me. :-)

I've found this example of the Breton pronunciation: http://de.forvo.com/search/nolwenn/br/And this one for the French pronunciation:
http://de.forvo.com/search/nolwenn/fr/... and I can't vouch for neither of them ;)
Other than that I just got a French name book, and now I really feel like toying with Nolwenn combos ;)

Very helpful, especially since it confirms my hopes. Thanks!

I love Nolwenn! But I have no idea what to pair it with. It's also consistently ranked low in my PNL - I don't know if many other people like the name.

But it's so deliciously close to Noël, but "homey"-er. I used to just like it, but then I discovered it's the name of a French singer and she looks exactly the way I would have pictured a Nolwenn -- sort of a dark haired Isabelle Adjani. So I got really into it. Ah, well. So many names, so little time. Thanks for the input. :-)
